Eating pomegranates is a New Year's eve tradition in many countries of the world since it is supposed to bring good fortune on the love front. The myth comes from the legend of Proserpina, daughter of Jupiter and Ceres, who symbolizes faithfulness and loyalty, though the story has little to do with love. Proserpina was kidnapped by Pluto, king of Hell, and although she was found by her parents, she was unable to return among the living because she had tasted food during her stay on the kingdom of the dead, in particular de grains of a pomegranate. Therefore, on New Year's Eve we eat this fruit hoping it brings us good luck on all heart matters, but also as another excuse to include the beloved by all Italians color red on our celebrations.
