Try These Quick and Easy Snacks - My Granddaughter Samantha's and Santa's Lip Smackers

Author: Linda Wilson
To me there is nothing more fun than getting in the kitchen and having fun with my grandchildren. Yes, they can be messy but they are learning so much and having fun at the same time. What a wonderful way to make memories to last a life time. These recipes are fun ones to make with the children and they are tasty enough to enjoy, too! Just today my seven-year-old granddaughter and I made her Lip Smackers.
She did everything except stir when the stirring got too hard for her. We talked about measurements when she looked at her cookbook (Yes, her own Cooking with Santa Cookbook!) and asked me what a 1 with a line and a 2 meant. When I handed her the 1/2 cup plastic measure, she noticed immediately that it said 1/2 on it. Is there a more fun way to do math? We called our concoction 'Samantha and Santa's Lip Smackers'. She found a recipe in her Santa cookbook that we didn't have all the ingredients for. With it as a guideline we made substitutions and additions to come up with the recipe below. Get your little ones in the kitchen and try it. They will have fun and there is very little mess to be cleaned up afterwards. Samantha was scraping the bowl clean after we finished. Loading the dishwasher, and a bit impatient for the bowl and spatula she was using, I asked if she was about done it with. She immediately responded with some of the words I frequently say to her, "We don't want to be wasteful now do we, Grandma?" Now what was I supposed to say when she used my own words against me? Needless to say, she won that round!
Samantha & Santa's Lip Smackers
20 large marshmallows
3 tbsp butter
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 cups crispy rice cereal
Combine the marshmallows, butter, and chocolate chips in a microwave-proof mixing bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Marshmallows will puff up. Stir with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Return to the microwave and microwave for another 30 seconds until marshmallows and chocolate chips are melted.
Remove mixture from the microwave and stir in the cereal, one cup at a time.
Grease a cookie sheet with butter. Then butter your hands. Shape mixture into whatever shapes you prefer and decorate if you desire.
To store, if you have any left, keep in an airtight container or bag in cellophane bags to give as gifts.
Enjoy!
