Author: Phil Tucker
The world has become suffused with all the different health Superfoods that we are all supposed to consume. Each day another fruit is discovered in the depths of some remote rainforest that is supposed to revolutionize nutrition, and it seems impossible to keep abreast of everything we are supposed to be eating. From vitamins to minerals, from probiotics to phytonutrients, everything out there demands increasing amounts of knowledge and awareness, to the point where it can become overwhelming, leaving us exhausted and tired of trying to keep up. That is why we're going to take things back to basics today and take a look at cinnamon, an old school spice that is increasingly being discovered to contain many wonderful properties. In today's article we are going to look at the many benefits it contains, and show you why you should be adding it to your diet.

Cinnamon has an ancient history as a food item for humanity—it was imported into Egypt as early as 2000 BC, and is mentioned many times in the Bible. Derived from the inner bark of several trees, it hails from South East Asia, and has a long history of medical and curative uses.
Cinnamon has been shown to have positive effects in helping people lower their LDL cholesterol, as well as helping people lower their blood sugar levels, making it a fantastic additive for people with cholesterol problems and Diabetes. Further, in a research study conducted by scientists in the US Department of Agriculture in Maryland, it was shown to reduce the spread of lymphoma and leukemia cancer cells.
What else has it been shown to do? Incredibly enough it has also been demonstrated to have anti-clotting effects on the blood, and a study conducted in Copenhagen showed that just a teaspoon combined with honey with breakfast everyday could give significant relief to pain from arthritis, helping people live with what was once a debilitating condition. Finally, it acts as a natural food preservative, fighting the growth of bacteria and preventing food from going bad, as well as potentially helping your mind gain greater clarity of thought from simply smelling it.
If those benefits aren't enough to make you consider taking it on a daily basis, consider the fact that it is an excellent source of fiber, iron, calcium and manganese. You can either sprinkle it on your dessert, or even drop a stick of cinnamon in your tea!
