Whole Coffee Beans: A Cup Full Of Quality

Author: Shawni jGroezinger
Whether one is a part of the multitude of coffee aficionados or simply enjoys a warm cup of coffee to perk oneself up every morning, whole coffee beans are the best choice. One might ask why bother grinding one's own coffee when anyone can readily purchase previously ground coffee beans from the market. The fact is that while the grinding process may add an additional task to one's morning routine, the rewards simply outweigh the small inconvenience. Perhaps the most obvious reason why coffee lovers prefer grinding their own coffee beans over using instant ground coffee is the taste; grinding the coffee beans immediately before brewing produces a far richer aroma and taste. When purchasing previously ground coffee beans from the market, there's absolutely no way of telling the length of time that has lapsed since the beans have been roasted. Most coffee aficionados would attest that even gourmet ground coffee is nothing compared to an average quality freshly ground coffee.

Another advantage of whole coffee beans over previously ground coffee is its longer shelf life. The greatest factor that affects coffee freshness is exposure to either air or moisture or both; the reason why previously ground coffee possesses a shorter shelf life than whole beans is that a greater surface area is exposed to air. Previously ground coffee begins to loose some of their freshness within the first half hour after grinding. Even when storing ground beans in an airtight, moisture-free, light-proof container at room temperature, the maximum amount of time before consumption should only be a little more than two weeks; whole bean coffee, in comparison, can maintain its freshness for up to an entire month. However, this span of time only refers to the maximum amount of time that stored coffee can produce its best results.
One must remember that the greater the amount of time between purchasing coffee beans and brewing it, the lesser one's chances are of truly grasping its rich taste; to benefit from the coffee's distinctly delicious taste and aroma, one must be sure to brew the coffee shortly after buying it; it would also be wise to purchase only a certain amount of coffee beans that one would be needing for an entire week or so then purchase a fresh batch every now and then. When purchasing whole coffee beans from online retailers, one must consider checking whether the sellers freshly roast the coffee beans on the day of shipment; one must also select a coffee retailer that offers short shipping time so that one would be afforded with more time to enjoy more cups of freshly brewed coffee. Dealing with coffee retailers that possess a good reputation among clients is greatly important. Light roasted coffee beans are able to preserve the original taste better than the darker ones. Upon receiving one's order of coffee beans, it is important to note that its smell would immediately provide one with an idea of how fresh the beans are and how they would taste after one brews them.
