Cocktails were initially an assortment of spirit, sugars, water, and bitters. The word has come to mean almost any combined drink that contains alcohol. A blend today usually contains one or more kinds of soul and one or more machines, such as soft drinks or fruit juices. Additional substances may be sugars, honey, milk, cream, and various herbs. A cocktail is of course a type of combined drink, generally containing one or a variety of alcoholic spirit and liqueur and may contain juices or syrups, carbonated drinks and other flavourants or colourants. It is usually designed ("garnished") with passable and/or non-edible products like fruit and nasty swizzle stays or straws.
