Piping Hot Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Without fail, each and every time that I make the effort to get up early and prepare these tender, from-scratch buttermilk biscuits, people scarf them down. They hover around the oven, sipping their coffee, commenting on how wonderful and tantalizing the biscuits smell in the oven. When the biscuits are taken out of the oven, the hungry breafast goers quickly get a hold of the whole batch of biscuits right off of the baking pan - even before I can get a spatula to move them to a serving tray and then walk them over to the kitchen table. Frankly, it is a comical scene!


Due to the fact that the biscuits are fresh out of the oven, folks often toss the piping hot biscuits forwards and backwards between their fingers when getting back to the breakfast table. I get to hear mutterings of, "ouch"...."hot, so,so hot!" It always makes me chuckle.

Once seated, people cut the biscuits in half and add either butter or strawberry jam to each half. Steam wafts out of the delicate, flaky middle and the butter rapidly melts into the biscuits and then runs down people's fingers.

List of Ingredients:

2 cups of flour (White Lilly flour is best)

1 teaspoon of baking powder

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 cup in addition to 1 tablespoon very cold butter

1 cup of lowfat buttermilk

Set the oven to 500. Finely try to cut the butter into the small portions, then chill inside fridge while fixing the rest of the materials. Blend dry items within a bowl. Utilizing a pastry mixer or alternatively fork, cut your butter straight into the dry ingredients up until combination resembles coarse meal. Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir.

Loosely build the dough in to a 1" thick rectangular shape. You should not overwork the dough. The rectangular shape needs to just slightly keep together. Cut the dough in to biscuits and place upon a greased baking pan. Bake within the oven for 10 minutes or until finally softly browned on top.

You can cover them with a clean kitchen towel to help keep them warm at the table and then enjoy!
