Make your own dried tomatoes. Just slice them when ripe to about 1/2" thickness. Put them facing upwards onto a cooling rack and add a little salt. Then place that on a baking sheet and dry them in an oven that is 190 degrees for 10 hours. After the tomatoes have cooled, place them in plastic bags, and store them in the freezer. Alternatively, dried tomatoes can be packed in a jar filled with olive oil and fresh herbs. This will be good for up to two weeks, and should be refrigerated during that time.


Make a habit of washing your dishes as you use them when you cook. When you are cooking, keep one side of the sink full of water with soap and a clean rinse in the other side. Your pots and pans will be easier to clean right after use, and they will also be available for use again right away.

For a simple way to add interest and complexity to your corn on the cob or dinner rolls, try mixing up a flavored butter. Allow the butter to be at room temperature when serving. Then mix in herbs, spices or sauces to add an extra burst of flavor. You can always add a little honey, lemon juice, or hot spice.

If you are cooking pancakes or waffles in the morning, you can put them in the oven so they will stay warm until you are ready to serve them. Heat your oven to 300 degrees. Then, when you have finished cooking the waffles and pancakes, place them on an oven-safe plate or cookie sheet and store them in your oven until ready to serve.
