The night before you are scheduled to prepare a large, multi-course meal, complete as much prep work as possible. Make sure you have all the necessary ingredients and chop and measure them in advance. When you are ready to get started with the meal, you will only have to deal with the actual cooking.


Cut down on cooking time by doing your prep work in advance. You may even be able to prepare your ingredients a day or more in advance. There are many cases when the meal will have more flavor if the ingredients are prepped a few days in advance. After you try this technique once, you will want to continue doing it.

Anytime you use meat for a stir-fry, make sure to slice the meat as thinly as you can and make your cut on the bias. Cutting meat thinly can be difficult and time-consuming. Freeze the meat until it is firm and then slice the thin slices across the grain.

In the fall, apples are often used for cooking, but if the fruit is incorrectly stored, it will spoil very quickly. Air that is dry and warm tends to make apples rot, and you can slow down this process by loosely placing them in plastic bags that are tied shut. Store them in a cool area, such as a refrigerator, garage or basement. One bad apple will quickly ruin the other apples.

When you are seasoning food, a good rule to follow is to add the seasoning a little at a time rather than adding it all at once in the beginning of the cooking process. If you do it in this manner you can flavor your food the best way and use your ingredients in the best way.

If you plan on cooking food using the barbecue, the grill should be readied prior to the event so it is good to go when you are. It takes approximately 30 minutes for the grill to heat to the proper temperature for cooking. The coals need to be around medium heat and covered in ash. Once the coals have reached this point, they have reached the prime grilling temperature.

Grilled fruit is surprisingly delicious. Try slicing peaches, nectarines, or melon and threading them on a skewer. Place them on a grill that has been cleaned until you see grill marks. They are yummy over ice cream or angel food cake.
