Learning To Cook MOMO/Wanton

Everyone wishes to swallow the cloud when they see them from a top of a hill or mountain slopes, this feeling is exotic, but it is not possible for obvious reasons, but there is a way to do it. In Chinese wanton means "swallowing a cloud". And be fittingly so, this food is indeed like a cloud. We can swallow cloud whenever we want by just following the recipe.


1/2 lb meat (minced)(pork and chicken are the best for wantons)

1 tbsp finely chopped scallions

1 tsp sesame oil

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 egg beaten

1 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp water

Vegetable oil for frying

500 gm flour

Make a dough of the flour by adding a bit of oil in it. Divide the dough in small equal balls and follow the above given video to make the wrappers of the wanton. Wanton wrappers are also available in ready-made versions... if you can find them you can buy them too. Once the wrappers are done, Mix all the ingredients except the liquids and fill the center of the wanton wrappers Moisten the edges with little water so that these wanton takes the perfect shape when you fold. Keep on filling and making wantons.

Fried Version: Heat oil in a pan, add a few wantons and fry them till golden brown in color. Drain the wantons and put them on a paper towel placed on a plate.

Soup Version: In a pan add soup measure water and bring the water to boil. Put a few wantons at a time and bring them to boil, on medium heat. Do this till the wantons are cooked. Boil chicken broth in a different pan, add pepper and a little spring onion. Add 3 wantons at a time and boil for 2 minutes.

Making a wanton is very easy and it does not need much of your time if all the ingredients are properly arranged at a time. Chinese recipes have always interested us because of the less spices and less time needed to make them. From light snacks to heavy meal this cuisine has always impressed us and wanton plays a major role in contributing to Chinese cuisine excellence.
